| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 23, 2010 Contact: Pete Peterson, (215) 990-8928 Mike Fitzpatrick Announces Run for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District LANGHORNE, PA –Citing his concern that the nation is heading in the wrong direction under the current agenda in Congress, Mike Fitzpatrick formally announced his candidacy today for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District. Fitzpatrick announced his decision to run at an event surrounded by over 500 friends, family and local residents outside St. Mary Medical Center, where he was treated for colon cancer in 2008. The cancer is now in remission. “For four years, I hoped and prayed that our country would begin to rebuild anew and take a vigorous approach to providing jobs, improving healthcare, keeping us safe, and reducing taxes on the working family,” said Fitzpatrick. “I cannot sit back any longer and watch what is happening to our country.” “18 months ago, I did not expect to run again for public office,” said Fitzpatrick. “But I also didn’t expect to see the runaway growth in the federal government, our national debt exploding, and so many fine Americans unemployed and underemployed. In short, I did not expect to see our nation heading so fast in the wrong direction.” “Being away from public office has given me a fresh, new outlook and a clear vision,” said Fitzpatrick. “I am running for Congress because we need to take back our country. We need someone in Congress whose primary concern is the citizens of Bucks and Montgomery Counties and Northeast Philadelphia, not currying favor with special interests and party leadership. We need a candidate who is committed to fighting to leave our country in better shape than we found it so our children can experience the same great country we know and love.” “When you get a second chance in life as I have, you have an obligation not to squander it,” said Fitzpatrick. “It is rarer still that you get a second chance to make a change. I am committed to starting that change right here in Pennsylvania, in the 8th Congressional District. As your candidate for Congress, I am going to work with local residents to put this country back on the right track, to create jobs, and to build a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.” About Mike Fitzpatrick A life-long resident of Bucks County, Mike Fitzpatrick has been an active member of the community, working to make our region a better place to live, work, and raise a family. Like many local residents, Mike is concerned about the current economic direction of our nation, the failure of Congress to properly address mounting job losses, and an agenda in Congress that fails to reflect the desires and concerns of the American public. He is running for Congress because he believes the district’s current representation in the House of Representatives is more concerned with currying favor with special interests and party leadership than representing the interests of local voters. |
